Today, on Throwback Thursday we shout out to Jennifer Rubell.
Yes, the Jennifer Rubell of the Rubel Family Collection and food performances.
Before Jacober Creative was Jacober Creative, our founder and creative director, Paul Jacober was hired by Ms. Rubell as in-house designer for her think tank, which operated out of a bungalow in South Beach. The work Jacober created was for the Rubell Hotels collection of properties, comprised of the Albion Hotel and the Greenview Hotel.
“Surprisingly, The Albion and Greenview hotels (owned by Jennifer and her family) didn't have any marketing collateral at all,” says Jacober. “It was fun to be able to start fresh.”
The Albion is a historical property designed by Igor Polevitsky and built in 1939. It is famous art deco building that is an example of moderne architecture with its portholes, curved front and smokestack-like fins.
For the project Paul worked to create a full suite of marketing collateral. “I worked with Jennifer and developed this pouch concept (like a kangaroo), where the outer sleeve could contain different pieces of marketing pieces – an accordion brochure, double-sided cards, etc.”
The designs were clean, sparse and ultra modern – like the Rubell’s. Fortunately Paul’s use of full-bleed photography and minimalist-style type helped keep the streamlined brochures stylish.
After months of hard work and beautiful design, we (well, he) won a Bronze Medal award from Neenah Papers for the hotel brochures. “The result was super cool and ultimately made them award-winning.” he says. It was the first of many awards to come.
